For HR professionals, this moment offers a defining opportunity to establish the function's strategic centrality to organizational success. Work design, capability development, and psychological contract management—traditional HR domains—become the crucial mechanisms enabling organizations to capture AI value while building resilient, engaged workforces. The choice is not whether to engage with AI work transformation but how to lead it with clarity, urgency, and conviction that human flourishing and organizational performance advance together through thoughtful design.


The "first shoe to drop" in workforce transformation has already fallen. The question before HR leaders is whether they will design what comes next or react to systems designed by others according to different priorities. The evidence suggests that organizations and individuals both benefit when HR chooses to lead.
