Pet care expert explains how companies with pet-friendly policies see improved employee mental health and reduced workplace stress
Dogs in cubicles and cats on keyboards are becoming a more common sight as businesses recognize the advantages of pet-friendly workplaces. Beyond the cute factor, allowing pets at work can boost morale and productivity, but which companies are leading the pack in pet-friendly policies?
“Many employees see their pets as family members, not just animals,,” says Nick Jordan, Founder of Your Service Animal, a company that provides legally compliant Emotional Support Animal letters. “When companies welcome these furry family members, they're showing they get what matters to their people outside of work hours”
Mr. Jordan and his team analyzed data on companies that welcome pets to determine which businesses offer the most comprehensive pet-friendly policies. The study evaluated factors including whether companies allow pets at work, offer "paw-ternity" leave, provide on-site pet facilities, and supply financial support for pet care.
To determine the rankings, the team created a tiered system (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) based on the range of pet-friendly benefits offered. While all companies in the top 20 allow pets in the workplace, the higher-ranked organizations provide additional perks like dedicated pet areas, insurance coverage, and pet leave policies.

Gold Tier: The Elite Pet-Friendly Workplaces
The Gold Tier represents the pinnacle of pet-friendly workplace policies, with only three companies achieving this status: Amazon, Chewy, and Salesforce. What sets these companies apart is their comprehensive approach to pet benefits.
While all companies in the study allow pets at work, Gold Tier companies go above and beyond by offering multiple additional benefits. These organizations not only welcome pets but have created dedicated infrastructure and financial support systems for them.
Amazon, with 350,000 employees, has designated pet areas and provides pet supplies in the office. The e-commerce giant also offers employees pet care discounts of up to 20% through a partnership with the ASPCA.
“Amazon's pet policy is a testament to their innovative approach to workplace culture,” says Nick Jordan. “They've actually thought about what having a pet at work means—you need space, you need supplies, you need to handle the costs. It's that kind of complete thinking that puts them in our top tier.”
Pet supply retailer Chewy stands out as the only company in the study that offers paid “paw-ternity” leave for employees who adopt new pets. With 20,000 employees, Chewy also provides pet insurance as part of its benefits package.
“Chewy's paw-ternity leave policy shows a deep understanding of the adjustment period needed when welcoming a new pet,” explains Jordan. “Anyone who's brought home a new dog or cat knows those first few days are vital. They're showing they understand the real challenges pet parents face, which makes sense given their business.”
Enterprise software company Salesforce, with 72,000 employees globally, has managed to maintain a pet-friendly culture at scale. The company welcomes pets to work, has designated pet areas with various supplies, and offers employees both pet care allowances and insurance.
Silver Tier: Strong Pet-Friendly Foundations
The Silver Tier includes 11 companies that offer substantial pet benefits but may lack one or two elements found in Gold Tier organizations. These companies go beyond simply allowing pets in the workplace by providing financial support through pet insurance or creating dedicated spaces for animals.
Google stands out within this tier for its impressive on-site facilities, including a dedicated pet park called the “Doogleplex” at some locations. With over 244,433 employees worldwide, Google has made significant investments in pet-friendly infrastructure.
Other Silver Tier companies like TransUnion, TaskUs, Snowflake, and Sweetgreen distinguish themselves by offering comprehensive pet insurance programs. GitHub provides both pet care allowances and insurance, nearly qualifying for Gold Tier status.
Uber, with 21,000 employees, has created dedicated infrastructure with dog beds and a dog park, showing commitment to pets' comfort during the workday.
Bronze Tier: Entry-Level Pet-Friendly Policies
The Bronze Tier includes companies that have taken the important first step of allowing pets in the workplace but haven't yet implemented additional pet-friendly policies. These six companies—Infosys, Metropolis Technologies, Lyft, Airbnb, Canva, and BAYADA Home Health Care—represent organizations with significant potential to enhance their pet-friendly status.
Despite their Bronze classification, these companies deserve recognition for embracing the fundamental aspect of pet-friendly culture by allowing animals in the workplace. With workforces ranging from 5,000 to over 250,000 employees, these organizations demonstrate that pet-friendly policies can be implemented at any scale.
“Just taking that first step of saying 'yes, bring your dog to work' puts these companies ahead of most,” notes Jordan. “It's like they've opened the door, and now there's a chance to build something more robust around it. Even this basic level can make a huge difference for pet owners.”
Nick Jordan, Founder of Your Service Animal, commented:
“When you walk into an office where dogs are snoozing under desks and cats are perched on filing cabinets, you immediately feel the difference. There's this lightness in the air. People smile more. They take short breaks to pet a colleague's dog, and then get back to work with fresh energy.
“I can say from experience that having animals around helps people cope with workplace stress. That quick moment of connection with a pet—even someone else's pet—can completely reset your mental state when you're dealing with a tough project or tight deadline.
“As more companies shift to hybrid models, I think we'll see the ones with solid pet policies winning the talent war. It's a simple thing that makes a profound difference to people who've grown accustomed to having their pets nearby while working from home. Smart employers recognize that happy, supported team members do better work—and pets are a surprisingly powerful part of that equation.”

Methodology: To determine the most pet-friendly companies in the world, Your Service Animal analyzed pet-related policies across major global corporations. The study evaluated four key factors: allowing pets at work (weighted at 40% of the total score), offering paw-ternity leave (20%), providing on-site pet facilities (20%), and offering pet insurance or financial support (20%).
Data was retrieved as of March 31, 2025, primarily from Builtin (https://builtin.com/companies/perks/pet-friendly) and supplemented with information from company career websites and other public sources. From approximately 1,000 pet-friendly companies identified, the top 30 were selected based on number of employees and number of offices. Companies operating completely remotely were excluded from consideration.
Based on the evaluation of these four factors, companies were classified into three tiers: Gold (highest level of pet-friendly policies), Silver (substantial pet benefits), and Bronze (basic pet allowance in the workplace). All companies in the top 20 allow pets at work, with higher tiers distinguished by additional benefits such as on-site facilities and financial support.
