Summary

Marketing Team's Discussion on Trust

Regina from the marketing team had a discussion with Jonathan. Regina wanted to ensure that everything was okay and mentioned that Ricardo Cantu would join them soon. Regina was given permission to stay and listen in case anything was needed. The discussion then turned to the weather, with Regina in Mexico City and Jonathan in the Salt Lake City area. They also confirmed that Ricardo Cantu was in San Francisco. Viktoriia later joined the meeting, and they were waiting for Ricardo Cantu to join. Once everyone was present, Jonathan explained to Ricardo Amper how the conversation would work. They would discuss the topic of low interpersonal trust and its effects on institutions. The conversation was set to be informal with a focus on Ricardo Cantu's background and the topic at hand.

Trust, Privacy, and Identity: Incode's Vision for the Future

Jonathan and Ricardo Cantu discussed the importance of trust in institutions and how it relates to productivity and innovation. Ricardo Cantu, founder and CEO of Incode, shared his vision of the future where privacy and security are paramount, and physical IDs are replaced. Their identity products aim to facilitate trust in society, with clients in various industries including banking, government, and healthcare. Ricardo Cantu emphasized the need for a reliable identity bureau and highlighted Incode's mission to revolutionize the identity world.

Security and Trust in Financial Services

Ricardo Amper and Jonathan discussed the importance of security and privacy systems in maintaining trust and protecting privacy. Ricardo Cantu highlighted the significant costs of declining interpersonal trust, particularly in financial services and car sharing services. He shared personal experiences of identity theft and impersonation attempts, emphasizing the need for robust security measures. Jonathan expressed his agreement with Ricardo Cantu's points.

Fairness, Cybersecurity, and Trust: Challenges and Solutions

Ricardo Amper discussed the cost and accessibility issues created by certain processes, which can make society less fair and hinder progress. Jonathan emphasized the importance of cybersecurity and privacy measures, especially around identity, as scammers are increasingly using deep fake technology to spoof identities and defraud people. Jonathan also noted the negative societal, business, and innovation-related outcomes of a lack of trust, which can lead to wasted time and energy and a focus on self-protection rather than creativity and innovation.

Identity Fraud Prevention: The Need for Privacy and Security

Ricardo Amper predicted a significant increase in identity fraud in the next 3 to 5 years. He highlighted the importance of government partnership in creating a reliable system of identity that prioritizes privacy. He also emphasized the need for a reusable identity system that isn't dependent on social security numbers or other easily hacked data. Ricardo Cantu further discussed the use of vector databases and blockchain technology in ensuring secure voting and identity verification processes. Finally, he mentioned the role of trust in facilitating transactions, referencing India's successful implementation of a digital identity system, Aadhaar.

Trust: Key to Societal Progress and Technology Adoption

Ricardo Amper and Jonathan discussed the significance of interpersonal trust in society. Ricardo Cantu highlighted how India has become one of the highest trusting societies in the world, surpassing the US, and how an increase in trust correlates with economic growth. Jonathan expressed hope that this trend could help improve societal conditions in the US, particularly regarding the current lack of trust among younger generations. They also touched upon the role of technology in strengthening trust and improving the voting process. Ricardo Cantu predicted that despite potential fraud and distrust in the next five years, it will ultimately lead to a more inclusive adoption of new technologies.

Violence Reduction in Mexican Stadiums

Ricardo Amper discussed the issue of violence in sports stadiums in Mexico and how they introduced an identity system, known as the 'fan ID', to address this problem. The system was designed to create an incentive for fans to behave appropriately, with the threat of being banned from all stadiums if they misbehave. The results were positive, with a 11% increase in attendance within three months and a near 30% increase after a year. Violence also reduced by 99%. Ricardo Cantu emphasized that this model could be replicated in other places and contexts.

Identity Revolution Discussion

Jonathan and Ricardo Cantu had a discussion about an impending identity revolution in the US and its potential impact on society. Ricardo Cantu shared his email address and Twitter handle for those interested in connecting with him and his team. Jonathan encouraged the audience to reach out and find out more about Ricardo Cantu's work. The conversation ended with the agreement to edit the discussion for release the following morning.
