​Guidelines for Manuscript Submissions

Submission Requirements Checklist:

​

• The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under review elsewhere.

• Prepare a cover page with the manuscript title, author names, affiliations, contact information, and ORCID IDs (if applicable). Do not include the cover page with the manuscript file.

• Prepare the abstract and keywords to be entered directly into the submission system. Do not include them in the manuscript file.

• Prepare any acknowledgements to be entered directly into the submission system. Do not include them in the manuscript file.

• If applicable, prepare a statement about funding sources and conflicts of interest to be entered directly into the submission system.

 

Manuscript Formatting:

​

• Format the manuscript following the HCI Academic Press Journal Guidelines for Manuscript Submissions and the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition.

• Submit the manuscript as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx).

• Place tables and figures at the end of the manuscript after the reference list, formatted per the journal's guidelines and APA style.

• Images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

 

Supplemental Media:

​

• Submit supplemental media (video, audio, images) separately from the manuscript file.

• Accepted video formats: 3gp, asx, avi, f4v, flv, mkv, mov, mp4, mpg, wmv

• Accepted audio formats: aac, ac3, aiff, flac, m4a, mp3, wav, wma

• Accepted image formats: tiff, jpeg, bmp, png, gif

 

Manuscript Types:

HCI Academic Press Journals accepts a variety of manuscript types, including:

• Research articles (up to 3,500 words)

• Reviews (up to 1,500 words)

• Literature reviews (up to 2,500 words)

• Research notes (up to 2,000 words)

• White papers (up to 2,000 words)

• Commentaries (up to 1,500 words)

• Case studies (up to 2,000 words)

• Policy briefs (up to 1,500 words)

• Policy analyses (up to 1,500-2,500 words)

• Fact sheets (up to 750 words or 1 page)

• Multimedia works (see separate guidelines)

 

General Guidelines

​

The journal's goal is to share research and evaluation that offers evidence-informed solutions and meaningful change processes to support community, educational, and organizational well-being. A wide variety of submission types are welcome, including research articles, reviews, literature reviews, research notes, white papers, commentaries, case studies, policy briefs, fact sheets, and multimedia works.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.

​

Types of Submissions:

​

• Research Articles: Full-length research articles that share new findings and innovative approaches. Articles should be no more than 3,500 words, excluding references, tables, and figures.

• Reviews: Reviews of books, podcasts, websites, and other media that contribute original knowledge and understanding. Reviews should be no more than 1,500 words.

• Faculty Spotlights: Descriptive narratives highlighting faculty experiences designing and implementing teaching projects. Submissions should be 2,000-3,500 words.

• Literature Reviews: Synthesis of research on evidence-informed solutions and processes . Articles should be no more than 2,500 words.

• Research Notes: Short descriptive reports (no more than 2,000 words) on preliminary research or new research projects.

• White Papers: Short (no more than 2,000 words) well-researched reports on current issues affecting community, educational, or organizational well-being.

• Commentaries: Perspective and critical analysis pieces  (no more than 1,500 words).

• Case Studies: Discussions of a particular case regarding social, educational, or organizational problems, solutions, or change processes (no more than 2,000 words).

• Policy Briefs: Evidence-driven information on policy issues addressing community, educational, or organizational needs (no more than 1,500 words).

• Policy Analysis: Reviews of policies addressing social, educational, or organizational problems at a macro level (1,500-2,500 words).

• Fact Sheets: Research or evidence-based information on promising community-engaged, educational, or organizational practices (no more than 750 words/one page).

• Multimedia Works: Podcasts, infographics, videos, and other supplemental media formats.

 

How to Submit a Manuscript:

Authors should submit their manuscript using the online submission system. They will be prompted to enter cover page information and upload the manuscript file.

​

Before submitting, authors should review the Submission Checklist.

 

Manuscript Formatting:

​

Manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word files (.doc or .docx) and follow APA style guidelines (7th edition).

​

Specific formatting requirements include:

​

• 12-point Times New Roman font

• 1-inch margins

• Double-spaced, left-aligned text

• APA-style headings

• Tables and figures at the end of the manuscript, after references

 

Accessibility Standards:

​

Manuscripts must adhere to accessibility guidelines, including:

​

• Using formatted headers

• Properly formatting tables, graphs, and charts

• Providing descriptive links

• Including alt text/captions for images and figures

• Ensuring appropriate color contrast

 

Bias-Free and Inclusive Language:

​

The journal follows APA's guidance on using bias-free and inclusive language in all submissions.
